Agilent has developed a new, unparalleled equipment for the analysis of plastic microparticles, as well as a method for visualizing chemical composition based on direct laser IR spectroscopy – the Agilent 8700 LDIR. The Agilent 8700 LDIR with automated Agilent Clarity software was tested on real samples collected in the Indian Ocean using the Geesthacht Microplastics Fractionation (GIMPF) system. It has shown high efficiency and reliability for the search and characterization of microparticles and microfibers of plastics in various samples.
