Synthesis and study of the properties of N-diphenylphosphoryl-N'- alkylureas as a new class of extractants for the concentration and separation of uranium and transuranic elements Quantum-chemical modeling of the structure of N-diphenylphosphoryl-N'-(ω-alkyl) ureas based on the calculation of Molecular Electrostatic Fields has been carried out. A highly efficient technological one-pot synthesis process has been developed and N-diphenylphosphoryl-N'-(ω-alkyl) ureas have been synthesized. The extraction properties with respect to f-elements in nitric acid media have been investigated. It has been shown that N»-alkyl-substituted N-diphenylphosphorylureas are highly efficient extractants capable of extracting actinides and lanthanides from nitric acid solutions with high distribution coefficients, while significantly surpassing the known neutral mono- and bidentate organophosphorus extractants of various types.

Chemistry as a Set of Record Achievements The article is an overview of the records of chemistry, i. e. the largest or smallest molecules, their extreme properties and features, remarkable facts and achievements of chemists, the very top in this science. The meaning and significance of scientific records are discussed. Their combination sharply demonstrates the role of chemistry in science, technology and the material culture of mankind.

Determination of Sulfur Compounds in Petroleum Products The issues important for the oil industry for determining the content of sulfur compounds, which cause problems during the transportation and processing of oil and oil products, are discussed. The determination of these undesirable compounds is an important and urgent task, since sulfur is the most common heteroatom in oil and oil products. The total sulfur indicator includes a number of sulfur compounds that are part of petroleum products (elemental sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, organic sulfides and disulfides, thiols and thiophenes) and oil (hydrogen sulfide, methyl and ethyl mercaptans). The requirements for chromatographic equipment for the analysis of petroleum products are listed and justified. Issues of sample preparation and analysis automation are touched upon. Examples of equipment for quantitative analysis of sulfur compounds are given.
