Red Wine: Chemical Composition, Antioxidant Activity, Effect on Human Health DOI: 10.22184/2227-572X.2020.10.1.38.52
A review of the literature on one of the most ancient drinks – wine is presented.
Particular attention is paid to red grape wine, which contains many different nutrients, and the most valuable in its composition are vitamins, trace elements and antioxidants. Modern analytical methods, primarily chromatography and mass spectrometry, made it possible to establish the chemical composition of various wines. The antioxidant activity of different brands was also determined, and it was found that red wine has an order of magnitude higher than white wine due to the use of peel and grape seed in its production. The total antioxidant content of more than 80 red wine samples was measured by the amperometric method. The authors analyzed the results and came to the conclusion that the authenticity of wines can also be judged by the values of antioxidant activity. An important section of the review is a discussion of the effect of red wine consumption on human health. It is noted that moderate consumption of red wine can reduce the risk of many diseases, including cardiovascular, oncological, neurodegenerative, type 2 diabetes, etc. Red wine suppresses oxidative stress, which is considered the precursor of many diseases.

Lasers in analytical spectroscopy DOI: 10.22184/2227-572X.2020.10.1.54.66
The article is based on a plenary lecture of the author at the III All-Russian Conference on Analytical Spectroscopy. A brief review of the use of laser radiation in analytical spectroscopy is presented. The methods based on the resonant selective excitation of free analyte atoms by laser radiation with a narrow spectral line width are discussed. The reasons why laser selective techniques were inferior to emission and mass spectrometry using the inductively coupled plasma (ICP-AES and ICP-MS) are explained. The methods of direct analysis of solid samples using laser ablation (LA) – the evaporation of sample material in the focal spot of a powerful laser pulse focused on the surface of the sample – are examined in detail. The advantages and limitations of laser-induced emission spectroscopy and the combined LA-ICP-MS method are described. The final part discusses the method of absorption spectroscopy with tunable diode lasers (DLAS). DLAS technique is widely used in many analytical applications – from non-contact diagnostics of the hot zones to diagnosis of the diseases by the patient’s expired air.

Time of flight chromatography-mass pectrometers: design features, features and benefits DOI: 10.22184/2227-572X.2020.10.1.68.74
The acquisition of a mass spectrometer is an important investment for a modern analytical laboratory. When considering instrumental platforms, choosing a good mass spectrometer for a laboratory expands its functional boundaries, helps in achieving goals, obtaining reliable results, increasing analytical capabilities and saving the budget. A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS), which is characterized by a high speed of recording mass spectra in combination with gas chromatography (GC), can be very useful in the work of both a research and high-performance laboratory working according to standard procedures. GC–TOFMS is the right choice for the detection of new unknown compounds, the simultaneous quantification of target analytes and inappropriate analysis of complex samples, increasing laboratory productivity due to the possibility of high-speed chromatography. Fields of application are very diverse, for example, pollution control of environmental objects, food safety, waste management, analysis of samples of plant, animal tissues and biological fluids in metabolomics, research of oil and oil products, biofuels, etc.
