PJSC Fine Chemicals R&D Centre: We really do a serious science along with a successful business One of the leading Russian manufacturers of fine chemicals EKOS-1 Group, celebrated its 30th anniversary on January 25, 2019. It is well known among consumers of highly pure chemical reagents, reagents and preparations for water treatment, textile production and other industries. The holding structure has its own subdivision - PJSC Fine Chemicals R&D Centre, which by now has not only significantly advanced the holding’s research and development, but also increased its own customer base, helping customers to solve non-standard analytical and technological tasks. On the history of the Centre, its research and development, implemented projects and development prospects told its leaders and leading researchers.

Mass spectrometry for investigation of corrosion processes on the surfaces of structural materials To investigation corrosion products on the surface of structural materials, a set of methods consisting of thermodesorption mass spectrometry, chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography – mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry and activated matrix/surface laser desorption/ionization is proposed. With the help of the selected methods, it is possible to simultaneously analyze all classes of organic and inorganic compounds in a wide range of their molecular masses on surfaces of different types. On the example of alloys AMg-6 and Ad-0, in contact with the corrosive components of rocket fuel, the technique is worked out and the advantages and effectiveness of the joint use of a set of methods are shown.

Determination of traces of stabilizers of chemical resistance of smokeless powders by tandem gas chromatography-mass spectrometry A method of high-sensitivity simultaneous determination of stabilizers of chemical resistance of smokeless powders – diphenylamine, centralite I (N,N’-diethyl-N,N’-diphenyl urea) and centralite II (N,N’-dimethyl-N,N’-diphenyl urea) by gas chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry is proposed. The parameters of detection of analytes in the mode of monitoring of the selected reactions are optimized, the conditions of their effective separation on the nonpolar column TG-5MS are selected. The limits of detection are established, the method of quantitative analysis using the internal standard is developed.

Pyrolytic chromatography for geochemical studies of oil-bearing rocks: a new look at the classical approach In this study we applied another approach based on Py-GCMS technology in order to get the same data as it can be acquired by using conventional core analyzer. Experimental part describes samples in details we analyzed using available equipment. The key units we used was pyrolizer coupled with GCMSD. In results of this analytical challenge we were able to provide the S1, S2, S3, Tmax information with level of confidence we usually could see doing conventional core analyzer tests. Moreover mass spectra of pyrolizates can be inspected easily to detect certain groups of compounds. Sulfur-containing compounds temperature extracted by Py-GCMS can be measured for example. In the whole we should underline that Py-GCMS technology fully comply with mainstream analytical protocol for whole-rock or kerogen analysis and even more, Py-GCMS has a lot of advantages against conventional approach providing us additional useful information about a sample.
