Laboratory safety was once limited to removing toxic vapours from the laboratory. Today, it also requires the control of submicron particles and the isolation of the working environment. The nature of laboratory hazards has become more complex, while the requirements for working conditions have become more stringent. In laboratory practice, three types of equipment are used: laminar flow cabinets, chemical fume hoods, and biological safety cabinets. Each serves a specific purpose and reflects a particular stage in the development of laboratory protection systems.
