Extracting DNA from agarose gels and subsequently purifying it for use in molecular biology research are challenging tasks. Specialized kits designed for these purposes are often expensive, making them inaccessible to many non-commercial laboratories. Alternative DNA extraction methods may require difficult-to-find equipment and reagents. This article discusses solid-­phase extraction using various silica samples as a binding agent, as it is one of the most effective methods for obtaining high-quality DNA. The aim of this study is to examine the significance of particle zeta potential, morphology, particle size, and FTIR spectra for assessing the effectiveness of various silica types in the preparative extraction of DNA from agarose gels.
