The meeting about use of Tsvet's chromatographic method in chemical analysis was convened in 1953 by the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry named after V. I. Vernadsky Academy of Sciences of the USSR (GEOKHI) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the publication of M. S. Tswet of the first work on chromatography. Thus, this was the first large-­scale event of the Comission of the USSR Academy of Sciences on chromatography – more than 500 people from 39 cities of the USSR gathered, 56 reports were made. Many of the tasks set by the meeting for solving in subsequent years are relevant today.
